Is a ‘good food for a good health’ or a ‘good health for a good food’?
Many of us may have contradictory concepts: We need good food for our good health vs we need good health for consuming good food in life. In other words, do we need good health to have the power to consume good food or do we need good food to have the power of maintaining healthy life?

This content will be about what are the impacts that eating foods has on our health, and how does it affect your daily life and emotional state as well. You’ll find out what are your three kinds of needs for nutrients, how you can choose them by taste, texture, smell or all together. And finally you’ll learn whether you want your good health for preparing yourself for consuming good food in the future or vice-versa.
What is the relationship between food and health?
Food is what you need to stay alive. The first thing that comes to people’s mind when they hear “food” is either the materials in their fridge or cupboards. It can be stored and keep for a period of time. Food consists of nutrients like protein, carbohydrates, fat and vitamins.
Without food, no one can develop and grow. But what does the food we eat do for our body? Does it help us grow or does it harm? The answer is not straight-forward to be drawn out.
We always tend to ignore the fact that a healthy diet is not only about how much food we consume and how much nutrients do we take every day. What truly matters is what kind of foods we choose and how can they help us maintain good health or have bad impact on our body. These things determine food’s role as a tool in maintaining healthy life, which may affect your daily life and emotional state.
What is the role of food in maintaining health?
Nutrients are the most important part of a person’s life. They consist of proteins, carbohydrates, vitamins, lipids and minerals. All nutrients are essential for our body to function and grow. An essential nutrient cannot be produced by the body itself, except that most people possess a good amount of them because they’re always taken in foods. We may think just eating lots is the solution to all that we want to achieve in our lives, but what if there was no food at all? Society would come to an end and so would civilization because we must eat to survive.
When food intake is insufficient, the body will turn to storing the energy that is stored in its cells. This process is called fasting and it requires energy to run a human body, except for some people who are genetically very short of this energy-storing process. If we continue conducting fasts for a long time, our brain would become lazy from not being active and it may lead to depression.
Another thing that turns ordinary foods into nutrients are vitamins. For example, raw green vegetables contain vitamins A, B and C but if we cook them under high temperature, their whole nutrients will be destroyed or damaged so that they might no longer serve as a useful tool for the health of our body.
What do carbohydrates, proteins and fats in food do to our health?
Proteins and fats are made up of chains of amino acid molecules. During the digestion process, these chains are broken down into single amino acids that enter into a person’s blood stream to then be used for cellular maintenance and growth. If there is not enough protein in the body, it will take away some protein from other cells to compensate for its lack of supply, which makes them weaken and become old faster than needed.
Carbohydrates are basically simple sugars, but some of them may also be starches (complex sugars). They’re built around a number of carbon atoms that results in a great amount of energy to whoever eats them. Most plants are carbohydrates. The energy that the person eats comes from carbohydrates and the energy stays in their blood stream for a long time. So if you eat foods rich in carbohydrates, your body will get lots of energy. Carbohydrates are also known as sugars or starches. They’re built around a number of carbon atoms which results in a tremendous amount of energy to whoever eats them.
Fat is used as fuel (energy) for cells and it’s stored under fat tissue from which it is used later by the cells to make up their own energy. There are two types of fats: saturated and unsaturated. Saturated fat is solid at room temperature and is found in cows and other animals. Unsaturated fat is liquid which means it’s the type of oil (for example, olive oil) that we can find in vegetables.
What would happen if we are deprived of good food?
Many things can happen if you don’t get what you need as food. You may feel more hungry and depressed, which also affects your everyday life such as, not being able to sleep well and lose weight. And, of course, if you are deprived of it for a long time then your body would have no other choice but to store the energy that is stored in its cells in its fat tissue which is accumulated under the skin. If this happens for a long time then it would be dangerous to your health.
How important is a nutritious diet to our health?
Every day we need to get the right amount of nutrients in our body like proteins, fats, carbohydrates and vitamins. If you don’t get them then your body will lose its capability to function normally and can lead to serious health problems. Here’s what happens without any nutrients:
The brain will be lazy and have no energy to send signals around your body if there’s no food you take in as fuel. It will also cause sudden mood swings because people with no food intake often become irritable and angry. The digestive system won’t be able to do their job in maintaining the regularity of bowel movements because it needs enzymes for that which are produced when we eat good foods.
Do we need good health for living to consume good food in future?
Of course not. We need good health not only for being able to consume yummy dishes in our future. Instead, our good health is for doing our daily activities better so we will be able to live a happy life.
Good health is important for ourselves and for our loved ones too as we may not be able to help them if they have any health problem. Studies have proved that unhealthy people are less productive and we should take care of ourselves so that we’ll be able to take good care of those who are taking good care of us, especially our loved ones.
Remember that good health is a high priority for every individual and we should also be able to help our future generations since they will also be part of our lives someday.
What’s true: Food for a good health or a good health for food?
The question is like “Are we living to eat?” or “Are we eating to live?” In fact, if we consider the former question to be more important, we should answer “yes” and if the latter question is more important, we should answer “yes”. The answer here is both of them. Our life is a combination of both good food and good health because they are intertwined together.
