Easy tips to make a origami crane
In today’s blog post, we are going to show you how to make a origami crane from a paper napkin. Origami is an art-form which involves folding paper into shapes.
It’s easy to make a origami crane from a napkin, but if you want to make a more challenging one take a bit more time and effort. It can be made out of any kind of paper. The size of your crane will also depend on how much you fold the paper, so have some patience!
You can use different colors of paper, so the crane will look more realistic.

Before starting to fold the origami crane, you have to think about what kind of position it should take. There are several positions in which a crane can be held, but for this tutorial we are going to show you a very popular one.
You can fold a crane in a different way if you want, but if you want it to look more authentic and realistic you will have better results if you follow the instructions from this tutorial exactly. The bird is destined to be holding a letter ‘R’ in its beak. In its left hand, your origami bird is supposed to hold an “R” sign.
This is how you will make the origami crane without the letter ‘R’
To create the sculpture of an origami bird you will have to fold nine sheets of paper. This tutorial shows you how to fold seven sheets out of these nine, but if you want to make a more challenging crane, then it will be necessary for you to fold three sheets only. The letter “R” has been folded into a rectangle that can be aligned with the crane’s left hand. You can use any kind of paper that suits your tastes and preferences.
The next step is to pin down all the folds where they should be and then secure areas where they don’t belong.
A crane needs to have a beak, so to create the right shape, you need to leave a small part of the paper flapping. Hold onto the piece of paper from behind and form it into a triangular shape.
The next step is to fold the left side of the flapped bit in order for it to become a bit thinner and also create a pointy tip at the end.
Now all you have to do is to move this folded piece over until it reaches about an inch from where your beak was placed before. Take hold of this part and gently pull it down until the edge forms an angle with the rest of your napkin.

Do the same thing with the other side and you will notice that you will have made a beak. This time you should use your right hand and move it over until it meets the left edge of your paper flapping.
Once you have gathered all three pieces of paper together, pinch them until they form a U-shape. If your crane’s beak is too thick, then this step might hurt a bit as the thumb and index finger will dig into its beak, but if it is not too thick then there won’t be any pain at all.
Here is how you will make the origami crane’s wings.
Make them one at a time and try not to have confusion when folding the second wing, since the first one might be still in your mind.
The left wing will be folded in half vertically, while keeping in mind that its width should be twice as long as its length. Rotate this piece over until it reaches about an inch below where your crane’s shoulder would be. Use your right hand to pull out this part of paper until you form an angle with the rest of your napkin. Your left wing is complete! Now you just have to do it all over again for the right wing.
Fold the right wing in half vertically, while keeping in mind that its width should be twice as long as its length. Rotate this piece over until it reaches about an inch below where your crane’s shoulder would be. Use your right hand to pull out this part of paper until you form an angle with the rest of your napkin. Once both wings are complete, take hold of them and fold them over to the left side of your crane’s body. Try not to have confusion when folding the wings since you might still remember how they look like.
To create a tail for your crane you will have to fold a small triangle at the back of its body.
Fold the opening of the paper slightly to the right side and then rotate it so that your opening becomes hidden.

Now simply pull this piece of paper over to the left side of your bird, while taking hold of it with your right hand. Make sure that you don’t forget to take hold of this part with your left hand as well, otherwise it might unfold once again!
Here is how you will fold an R into a rectangle that can attach to the crane’s left arm. Fold both ends in towards each other until they meet in the middle. Next, you need to push these two flaps together until they become one single piece of paper. Use tape if you want to make it more secure.
Go ahead and fold the paper you have folded until it forms a U-shape.
Now you will need to work on the “R” sign you are going to attach to your crane’s bird. This can be done by folding two small rectangles, making sure that both ends of these pieces are aligned with each other.
The “R” sign is complete, so now all you have to do is to attach it onto the back of your origami bird. Give it a little light push in order to attach it with the aid of the tape.
At the end, you should have a very realistic origami crane. If you want it to look more authentic and elegant then you can use different colors of paper and add some tape to make its wings and tail more secure.
This is how you will make an origami bird that is holding an “R” sign in its left hand.
Start off by making an “R” sign out of a rectangle by folding both ends so that they meet in the middle, while keeping in mind that its width should be twice as long as its length. Fold the paper so that the two flaps meet together and then fold it again until it forms a U-shape.
Now you will need to work on the crane’s beak. Take hold of one of the paper flaps from behind and make it into a thin triangle. Hold onto this piece of paper from behind and make it into a thin triangle by folding one corner up.
Next, take hold of the other flap and form a triangle out of it as well. This will be your origami bird’s beak!

For the left wing, you will have to fold it in half vertically, while keeping in mind that its width should be twice as long as its length. Rotate this piece over until it reaches about an inch below where your bird’s shoulder would be.
Push the paper you have folded until it forms a U-shape, then you will have to work on the “R” sign. You can do this by folding two small rectangles, making sure that both ends of these pieces are aligned with each other.
You are now almost finished with the origami bird, so feel free to attach it onto your crane’s left arm using tape. Your paper crane is all ready!
For the next step, you will need to make an origami cat out of a square piece of paper.
Start off by making two diagonal folds that go from the top left corner to the bottom right corner of your paper. These folds should be kind of like an L-shape, but make sure that they are smooth before you proceed.
Next, you will need to make a diagonal fold in order to form an angle out of these flaps. Rotate this piece over until it reaches about an inch below where your cat’s shoulder would be.
Give it a little push in order not to lose its shape while folding. If you want, you can tape it down so that its shape is more secure and doesn’t change during the next steps of making origami cat .
Now you will need to make a small triangle out of one of the corners of your paper.
Take hold of both flaps from behind and make them into a thin triangle by folding one corner up.
In order to create your cat’s head, fold it in half vertically, while keeping in mind that its width should be twice as long as its length. Rotate this piece over until it reaches about an inch below where your cat’s shoulder would be. Use your right hand to pull out this part of paper until you form an angle with the rest of your napkin.
At the end, you should have a very realistic origami cat. If you want it to look more authentic and elegant then you can use different colors of paper and add some tape to make its head more secure.
